How to choose the right Pavement Boards

• Measure the space available on your pavement or forecourt to choose a board size that is visible from the street without obstructing walkways.
• Select a frame material to suit your environment and brand, such as warm wood for rustic venues or metal and aluminium for contemporary sites.
• Decide whether you prefer a chalkboard writing surface for daily menu changes or snap frame styles for printed posters and long-running promotions.
• Consider how often you will move the board; choose lighter models with carry handles for frequent repositioning or heavier units for exposed locations.
• Match the board finish and colour to your existing signage, awnings and furniture for a consistent front-of-house presentation.
• Check compatibility with chalk markers or liquid chalk pens if you plan to update messages several times a day.

Care and maintenance

• Clean writing surfaces daily with a suitable chalkboard or marker cleaner to prevent ghosting and keep messages sharp.
• Wipe down wooden and metal frames regularly with a damp cloth and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive pads that can damage finishes.
• Allow boards to dry fully after rain and store indoors overnight where possible to extend life and protect hardware.
• Inspect hinges, chains and fixings frequently, tightening or replacing worn parts to maintain stability and safety on busy pavements.
• Use non-permanent, recommended chalk or liquid chalk pens to avoid staining and make message changes quick and easy.
• In very windy conditions, bring boards inside or secure them appropriately to prevent tipping and potential accidents.
